AN INTRODUCTION TO WINE

The course is ideal for candidates who have entered the wine retail, sales and hospitality industries recently and are looking to learn more wine theory and formal tasting procedures.

Qualification: Certificate III in Hospitality (SIT30713) – (SITHFAB005A – Provide table service of alcoholic beverages)

Pre Requisites: Statement of Attainment in Responsible Service of Alcohol (SITHFAB201)

Duration: 7 hours (includes a 45 minute written assessment)

Delivery: One full day educational delivery with Wine Tasting of McWilliam’s wines.

Time: 9:30am to 4:30pm

Silver Level II Wine Knowledge

WINE KNOWLEDGE AND SALES

This course provides a greater depth of product knowledge and sales across a broad range of Australian and international wine. It will focus on comparative varietal tastings and comprehensive tasting note development across a broad range of wines. With a direct focus directed to improving wine sales in retail, restaurants/cafes and online services.

Qualification: Certificate III in Hospitality – SIT 30713 – (SITHFAB310 – Provide advice on Food & Beverage Matching, SITHFAB305 – Provide advice on Australian wines, SITHFAB306 – Provide advice on Imported wines and SIRXSLS201 – Sell products and services)

Pre Requisites: The course is open to all students who demonstrate successful completion of equivalent ‘introductory’ wine courses or sufficient wine trade experience accompanied by references. (SITHFAB201- Responsible service of alcohol and SITHFAB005A – Bronze Level Course)

Duration: 15 hours (includes a 60 minute written assessment plus a 30 minute practical assessment of wines)

Delivery: The course is presented over two days

Time: 9.00am – 4.30pm over two days

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) SIThFAB201 & Approved Training Provider for OLGR (NSW) rsa course.

 

THE RSA COURSE IS RUN FOR OUR TRADE CUSTOMERS AND MCWILLIAMS WINES GROUP EMPLOYEE’S ONLY.
Cost: $150 per person          (TRADE ONLY)

From 22 August 2011, the photo competency card will replace paper-based RSA certificates.

Each State has different requirements for the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
  • Victoria (VIC) and New South Wales (NSW) in particular have their own state requirements – Classroom only.
  • Queensland (QLD), Western Australia (WA), Northern Territory (NT) and South Australia (SA) allow you to do a Nationally Accredited course (SITHFAB201) which can be done online.
  • Tasmania (TAS) and A.C.T. allow online courses to a relatively small group of approved trainers.

Successful candidates will be in a position to advise management, to answer customer queries authoritatively and to make informed selections of wines and spirits in a variety of situations.

Entry Requirements:  Students and candidates who are under the legal minimum age for the retail purchase of alcoholic beverages in the country where the examination is being held will NOT be allowed to sample any alcoholic beverages as part of their course, but this is NOT a barrier for successfully completing the qualification.  (Entry requirements may vary according to Approved Programme Provider)

Delivery: The course is presented over three days.

Time: 9.00 am to 4.30 pm each day (Approximately 22 hours includes assessment time)
